Dieses CIO Special diskutiert naturbasierte Lösungen (NbL), die uns bei der Bewältigung der Klimakrise helfen werden. Aber um das Potenzial von NbL voll auszuschöpfen, brauchen wir ein genaues konzeptionelles Verständnis davon, was sie sind und welche Vorteile sie bieten.

  • Naturbasierte Lösungen (NbL) sind „Maßnahmen zum Schutz, nachhaltigen Management und zur Wiederherstellung natürlicher oder veränderter Ökosysteme, die gesellschaftliche Veränderungen effektiv und anpassungsfähig bewältigen und gleichzeitig einen Beitrag zum menschlichen Wohlbefinden und zur Artenvielfalt leisten“ (laut Definition der Internationalen Union zur Bewahrung der Natur (IUCN))
  • Das Konzept der NbL beruht auf der Idee von der Natur als Wirtschaftsfaktor, also der Bedeutung von Naturgütern für die Erbringung sogenannter Ökosystemdienstleistungen. NbL in Kombination mit einem Wandel wirtschaftlicher Verhaltensweisen und technologischem Einsatz werden uns helfen, die dreifache Krise unseres Planeten zu bewältigen.
  • Ein effektiver Einsatz von NbL setzt ein Verständnis ihres wirtschaftlichen und ökologischen Nutzens voraus. Eine quantitative Bewertung ist erforderlich und das System of Environmental Economic Accounting (SEEA) der Vereinten Nationen wird zur Entwicklung neuer Systeme beitragen. Auch Finanzinstitute werden dabei eine Rolle spielen.
